Lazy Lion

Description

One animal that truly embodies calm confidence has to be the lion. No matter what is happening around him, he rests like an unshakeable rock, completely stoic and effortless in his authority. This portrait was taken at a wildlife sanctuary in Florida that cares for rescued big cats. This particular lion suffered an injury earlier in his life and could not be released back into the wild, finding a permanent home under their care.

Watching him rest was an incredible study in presence and texture. Even with his heavy chin propped lazily against the wooden platform, half asleep in the warm sun, that golden amber eye stayed sharp and observant. The thick, untamed mane framing his weathered face captures the quiet dignity of a predator who has nothing left to prove.
