Description

Another incredible encounter happened last year while on a Florida hike with my mom. On this particular trail, I was actually looking for eagles, as I had seen them on this trail in previous years. About halfway into our hike, I suddenly noticed that I thought was an eagle flying ahead. When I looked closer at it I noticed that it was actually osprey. What threw me off was the fact that it was actually carrying a large fish in its talons! I scrambled to track photography it in flight, but lost it briefly behind the tree line. A few minutes later, we found the bird perched out in the open at the very top of a dead pine branch, settled in to eat. I set up my tripod and worked closer step-by-step, taking care not to disturb it. Luckily for me, the osprey never gave me a second thought and was completely focused on its meal, tearing into the fish while the warm daylight caught the sharp curve of its beak and the feathers along its crown. I was so grateful that I got to catch this rare encounter, and I came away with some fantastic photos and videos of the event.
