Awestruck

Description

One technique I had been trying to incorporate into my night work for a while was clean water reflections. Out in the field, however, I quickly learned just how technical and demanding it is to pull off. First, the angle has to be perfect, requiring the camera to sit locked down right at ground level. Second, you need a small pocket of calm water positioned right between the lens and your subject. Third, the surface has to be perfectly still, because even a faint breeze will blur the stars and ruin the mirror effect.

After an hour of experimenting with positions and waiting for the water to settle, the entire shot clicked. Standing motionless at the water’s edge, framed by the faint golden glow on the horizon and the sweep of the Milky Way mirrored below, the scene felt completely surreal. It captured that breath-held moment when the earth and sky seem to meet.
