This shot had been sitting on my bucket list for over six years. I had set up a chair low in a wetland marsh, initially hoping to photograph roseate spoonbills and black-necked stilts along the flats. While I was sitting in my chair waiting for something to happen, I saw this large osprey approach in the distance. When it started diving, my heart almost pounded out of my chest. Being right down at water level gave me an unobstructed, low-angle perspective as the bird made repeated hunting passes. After circling dozens of times, it finally committed, tucking into a steep plunge and hitting the shallows hard. A few seconds later, it powered out of the water carrying one of the largest fish I have ever seen an osprey lift. The water was still dripping off the scales of the heavy catch as the bird beat its wings to gain altitude, giving me the exact action sequence I had spent years hoping to see.
