For years, I had been trying to get a photo of a dolphin coming to the surface for a second. After getting better at those photos and more comfortable with my camera, I was able to consistently get shots of dolphins popping out of the water. I then dreamed of a shot where I could get a sunset and a dolphin in the same shot. As you can imagine, this is incredibly difficult. Unfortunately, the dolphins are not very good at being on time and do not typically come when I call to them.
Luckily, one evening around sunset I was taking photos of a gorgeous orange sky. Then, in the corner of my eye, I saw a dolphin popping out of the water. I instantly dropped my stuff and ran around the beach, trying to get to an angle where I could get both the sunset and the dolphin in the same shot. This was incredibly frustrating as the dolphin would rarely come up in the same spot twice.
Eventually, I gave up and decided to just focus on getting some shots of the sunset and the water. After about 70 shots every few seconds, just when I was about to give up, my dreams came true and the dolphin popped up at the side of the sun. I was ecstatic at how lucky I had gotten and it instantly became a favorite of mine. If you look closely, there is even a pelican flying in the background!
