Pink Flight

Description

The roseate spoonbill is one of the strangest and most fascinating creatures in the avian world. Seeing one up close feels like looking at an odd combination of a prehistoric dinosaur and a flamingo. With their bare, greenish-gray heads and massive flattened bills, their upper half looks ancient, while their body is covered in the most gorgeous, vibrant pink and crimson plumage with smooth, silky feathers.

I caught this spoonbill wading through the calm shallows just as it prepared to launch into flight. With its wings swept up in an elegant display, the soft morning light backlit the delicate feathers, creating a glowing coral wash that reflects gently across the glassy surface of the water. It showcases that perfect contrast between their prehistoric look and their breathtaking, colorful elegance in motion.
