Through The Trees

Description

Another photoshoot that I really enjoyed was my autumn shoot in Toronto. To get this photo, I drove out toward the Don Valley in October and found a beautiful hike where the trees and the canopy looked completely gorgeous and golden. I ended up spending an entire day hiking through the ravines, completely blown away by the thick blanket of yellow leaves on the forest floor and the way the branches, fallen logs, and low autumn light interacted. One of my favorite techniques in woodland photography is to catch a crisp sunburst right through the trees. It creates such a brilliant, illuminating effect and adds immediate depth and character to the forest.

Finding the right angle and anchor point in the middle of a vibrant autumn forest is actually surprisingly tough because there are so many stunning trees everywhere you look. I eventually settled on this composition because of how the light split directly between the trunks. Positioning the camera just right allowed the low sun to flare through the center of the frame, throwing long shadows down the ridge and making the golden tones in the leaves glow with incredible warmth.
